Date: 14th November 2009 Location: The Source to Sea Cycle Challenge is a 100 mile (161.9km) journey from St Arnaud to Westport. Following the Buller River from its source at Lake Rotoiti to the Tasman Sea at Carters Beach. The Source to Sea is for the cyclist who wants a challenge of that distance that is mainly downhill. The vegetation, geology and geography changes throughout the track are incredible, from the East of the South Island to the West. The Heaphy Track, located in Kahurangi National Park at the northwest corner of the South Island is the longest of the DOC Great Walks. For 82 kilometres (50 miles) the track crosses the Park≠s range of landscapes, starting from the junction of the Brown and Aorere Rivers, over expansive tussock downs to the lush forests, nikau palms and roaring seas of the West Coast. The track is classified as a walking track, being well-formed and suitable for fit runners. All rivers and major streams are bridged. The Heaphy Five-0 will be limited to 100 runners. ENTRIES OPEN APRIL 1st 2009 The fastest time is expected to be around 6.5 hours. Runners must finish under 12-hours to be officially ranked. All runners that run under 12-hours will receive a finishers gift
